ANNOUNCING OUR 2011 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD RECIPIENTS
It is our pleasure to announce our 2011 Scholarship Award recipients.
Our scholarship award recipients are so honored because of their academic achievements and the promise they hold for building up Africa; for it is partly through education - of ourselves and about Africa - that we can continue to sharpen Africa's image.

2ND ANNUAL AFRIMETRO HOLIDAY & FUNDRAISING GALA

On December 10, 2011, New York was teeming with inspiration as our supporters gathered at our 2nd Annual AfriMETRO Holiday & Fundraising Gala.
The event, hosted by actress and comedian Yvonne Orji, recognized Sivan Borowich Ya Ari, founder of Jewish Heart for Africa, with the Friend of Africa Award. Inspiring Africans such as Claudius Sokenu, lawyer and professor of law, Jacqueline Nwobu, co-founder of Munaluchi Bride Magazine, and Alfa Demmellash co-founder of Rising Tide Capital, were also honored. Most inspiring was the evening’s Pinnacle Award recipient, Dr. Olufunmilayo Olopade, MD FACP, a distinguished scientist and doctor whose work exemplifies her commitment to saving lives. The Consul General of South Africa in New York, Honorable George Monyemangene, gave an inspiring special address and guests were serenaded by both Rafiya and Chris Akinyemi, and treated to a performance by an African Dance troupe.
During the event, over 70% of our fundraising goal was met via text message pledges. A portion of the proceeds from the event went to African Services Committee, our 2011 Charity of Focus, as well as our Scholarship Program.
